DESCRIPTION
As part of an intermediate or secondary teaching assignment, teaches one or more classes in the fields of music to students in grades 6-12 and assists in other school programs as assigned.
FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
Teaches knowledge and skills in band, orchestra, choral music and music appreciation to student utilizing courses of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
Instructs students in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of courses of study common to all teachers, as specified by state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
Provides instruction by which pupils develop aesthetic concepts, appreciations, and the ability to make qualitative judgments about music.
Demonstrates techniques in music activities, using standard and/or teacher-prepared instructional materials.
Develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time.
Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual and musical abilities, and encourages students to develop individual skills to the greatest extent possible.
Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive learning environment during instruction, rehearsals, and musical performances.
Instructs students in proper care and use of music equipment.
Organizes storage areas and controls use of materials and equipment to minimize time required for distribution and collection.
Maintains surveillance over district-owned music, robes, uniforms, instruments, and equipment in order to prevent loss or abuse.
Evaluates each student's performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understanding and prepares progress reports.
Selects and requisitions books, instructional materials and appropriate equipment, and maintains required inventory records.
Plans and presents, exhibitions, concerts, and parade participation designed to exhibit student accomplishment for the school and community.
Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
Acts as resource person on an interdepartmental level to relate appropriate aspects of music to other subject areas.
Communicates with parents and school counselors on the individual student's progress.
Identifies student needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school of assignment and/or on a district level.
Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
Performs basic attendance accounting and business services.
Shares in the sponsorship of student activities and participates on faculty committees.
May plan and coordinate the work of aides or student teachers.
Performs other concomitant duties as may be reasonably assigned.
MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Bachelor's Degree with major or minor in music including all courses needed to meet credential requirements
Appropriate California Credential: Single Subject Music
English Language Learner Authorization
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Two years of full-time teaching experience in music education

Appearance, grooming and personality which establish a desirable example for students

California requires that Transitional Kindergarten teachers hold a valid teaching credential and complete 24 semester/36 quarter units of early childhood education. We accept 3 years of service/experience. The maximum beginning placement on the salary schedule is step 4.Banning Unified School District contributes a minimum of $13,250.00 towards the costs of family medical, dental and vision insurance.This position is part of the Banning Teachers Association bargaining unit.The Board of Trustees is committed to providing equal opportunity for all individuals in education. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
